Our World in Photos is a community photovoice project, co-designed with One Arm Point Remote Community School (RCS) and the wider Ardyaloon community, and funded by Telethon 7. It uses photovoice and other visual methodologies to improve well-being in children aged 7-16 years. Christina Pollard is the CI and Mel Stoneham is also on the research team.
Throughout the process, children from Ardyaloon have built skills in photographic storytelling as a new mode of expressing their stories. Their work has been shared with the community through an interactive exhibition and sharing event. The insights shared by participants have formed the basis of a new toolkit which is currently being trialled by One Arm Point RCS.
In Ardyaloon, five themes were identified with community stakeholders and children. These were Feelings, Country, Interests, Relationships and Food. Some of the photos are shown below.

The project is currently working to engage with more young males, and the next trip will focus on:
- Training workshops on photovoice for stakeholders and community
- Youth workshops with up to 10 school-aged boys (10 years and older)
- Youth exhibition at Ardyaloon
- Bardi language translation with Elders
- Research – Focus groups to evaluate the toolkit and project so far.
