2012 Children’s Environment and Health Local Government Report Card Awards Winners Announced

The Public Health Advocacy Institute of WA (PHAIWA) is pleased to announce that the City of Rockingham has won the 2012 Children’s Environment and Health Local Government Report Card Project, a year after it finished in equal third place at the inaugural awards ceremony.  Rockingham also won three individual category awards.

The Awards organised by the Public Health Advocacy Institute of WA and supported by Healthway and the WA Local Government Association (WALGA), were presented on Monday 26th November 2012 by the President of WALGA, Mayor Troy Pickard, the CEO of Healthway, David Malone and PHAIWA Deputy Director, Melissa Stoneham.

These awards, specifically designed to recognise local governments, highlight policies that create environments which protect and support the health of children. Local governments provide a vast range of facilities and services and have a unique opportunity to promote and provide a safe, healthy environment for our children. This unique Western Australian project is based on a scorecard that showcases and recognises that local governments are showing true leadership and innovation in supporting the health of children in their communities.

The City of Cockburn and City of Swan finished in second and third place respectively, also winning two category awards each.  Notably, the City of Cockburn has been runner-up in both the 2011 and 2012 report card rounds. The Shire of Plantagenet won the Rural award, closely followed by the Shire of West Arthur in second place – also for the second year running – with the Shire of Northam coming third.
